Mould it!

Hello everyone!

It's a late night but I can't stop being happy about our blog and about how helpful people are in our community. This post will be dedicated to moulds as our lovely Jean Daniels had kindly shared some lovely tips and techniques with us in our blog galleries. So let's start talking about moulds and share our knowledge (in comment section) about moulding, moulding materials, cheeper options and amazing examples.

Jean says:
"When shopping in a craft store, I occasionally go into the cake department. I bought a rolling pin once with a swirl designs which works perfectly for texturing polymer clay. This time I bought a flexible mold meant for making fondants for cakes. It has two long designs on the right side, flowers, leaves and swirls. The swirls I used to make a frame."

Thank you very much Jean fro your great help and as for others - please participate in comment disscussion and share your wonderful tips about moulding tips and tricks!

Thank you xxx

September Competition Theme

As you all probably know by now - we usually create a poll with many competition themes every month and then we vote for the best competition theme and select it. This month I decided it to be different since I knew that what I will offer as a theme for September competition will be accepted. So I decided to introduce you to some amazing work of Anya Stasenko & Slava Leontiev and show you some of their amazing ceramic work. Not only their artwork pieces are cute, amazing and perfect from any point of view, but they also burst with inspiring shapes, textures and colours. So the theme for September's competition is:
"Texture Explosion"
Please check out these wonderful artists and I hope that amazing ideas will start appearing in your creative heads straight away! You can go for jewelry, sculptures, journals, boxes and anything you want as long as you play with lovely textures, colours and make it busy, but very pretty :)

Anya Stasenko & Skava Leontiev:

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF MY CHOICE ( In comments below).

Magic with Mica Powder

Mica Powder is a wonderful material that almost does magic and each artist should have at least a couple in their collection because just a little sprinkle of it can take your creation from Zero to Hero. Mica Powders come in all sorts and colors and are available from different brands like Perfect Pearls, Pearlex, Metal FX, Primary Elements and many more. You can even buy handmade Mica powders ( Mica Eye shadows) on ETSY made by a particular person from natural elements.
So as you understand the choice is big. All these powders are easily available in local craft stores or your favourite online craft shops but the problem sometimes is that they can be quite pricy, especially if you are like me and can't stop by buying only 1, only 5 or only 10... Because they are never enough! They are so beautiful! So what should you do if you have an empty pocket and a broken heart that is longing for magic, pearls and golds and you want to feel like a polymer clay fairy and spread some fairy dust all over the place? Let's see what Megi Migi suggests:

"You know that if you do not have the mica powder, you can also use eye shadows!"

Really, so easy? It may not be as perfect result and it all depends on your make up quality, but I guess if you are desperate here and now to create something shimmery - this will definitely do! Thanks Megi xxx.

Extruding with Ilze Girgensone

Extruding sometimes gets quite hard especially when you have an old extruder. Here is some helpful tip from Ilze Girgensone on how she deals with her naughty extruder:

"As I don't have any superpowers I need some helping tools in using a clay gun  All you need is a caulking gun and a metal disk."

If you know more amazing tips and tricks on how to easier deal with naughty extruders - please let us know in comments below. Every little input will be appreciated and respected xxx.

Sanding Tips by Jean Daniels

Jean Daniels posted this wonderful tip in our My Clay Fantasy FB group a while ago.
Let's remind orselves about this easy to make and wonderful sanding tool:

"I was able to buy these battery operated toothbrushes at a dollar store. I either cut off the bristles or turned them over and glued (E6000) different grits of wet/dry sandpaper. I use them on small pieces. Keep the tip and the object in water while sanding with the toothbrush."

Please let us know what you think about this wonderful homemade tool and if you have your sanding tips and tricks that can save up money and time - please let us know! Every comment will be much appreciated.

Welcome

Welcome my dear friends and those who don't mind being called Honey Bunnies!

Now we have a blog, now we have one place for all, now we have a home!

I am very glad to announce that our beautiful growing community had reached a new level and expanded into something more than just a Facebook Group! Now we have our own Blog/Website where you will see many wonderful and useful things very soon.

From official point of view this place will become a place for everyone to come back for information, for public announcements, competition results and to refresh their knowledge of the group rules, organise things and so on.
From the fun point of view it's a place to play, get inspired and inspire, achieve goals, do swaps and tell your creative successful and not so successful stories. In Facebook groups things just get pushed down and forgotten, but here you will be always able to search for the right article, for tutorial or suggestions and even participate in "Sweet Tweet" forum's polymer clay discussions.  These discussions will be organised in a bunch of useful info in our library of tips and tricks. So it's you and me who will be building this library together and each and every person can participate.

So don't worry if you think that this place is quite empty for now because it's not. It is just fresh and new and it can't wait to be filled with lots of happiness, fun and knowledge.

Biggest goal of this group is to make sure everyone is following it (subscribed) so that the count of all polymer clay artists continues and the question is finally asked (at least approximately):

"How many polymer clay artists exist on our Planet?"

So are you in? Don't forget to Follow Now on the top right side bar and let the count begin!
